A Return to Love

Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

BY Marianne Williamson

This is one of my favourite books of all time. My copy is well worn , with the pages coming loose and the cover falling off and stuck together with sellotape ! I wonder why I have never reviewed it before now. Maybe its because it has been around for a while and I assume everyone must have read it. Yet, when I mention it to my clients (as I do with monotonous regularity ) many of them have never heard of it.

This is the book containing the famous 'Nelson Mandela inaugural speech' where he quotes from her book. The quote is as follows....

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented , fabulous ? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us: it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others".

I particularly like that sentence "Your playing small doesn't serve the world" (We are so afraid to stick our neck out sometimes to be our powerful authentic selves.)

A Return to Love is about the practical application of love as a daily answer to the problems that confront us, whether in the area of relationships, career or health. It is a spiritual journey, psychologically and emotionally, back to the truth we were born with.

I know that I will read this book again and again, especially when I have an 'issue' to deal with. Its inspirational.

I hope you enjoy it too. I know you will.
